Sierra’s Story

Here is the third snippet, and it’s on time! XP I hope you enjoy the continuation of Red’s backstory! Note, this is also a very short one, but there may or may not be an additional post on Wednesday/Thursday with a continuation.

Snippet Three

Sierra ran to the silhouette. It was just a bush. I have enough time before breakfast to get to my tree, she reasoned. She ran into the forest until she came to a large tree with low-hanging branches. She swung herself over the first, climbing higher and higher into the tree until her head was sticking out above the branches.

She closed her eyes as the breeze swayed the tree gently.

Her stomach rumbled loudly.

Breakfast.

She’d be late if she didn’t hurry.

She turned her gaze to where her house was. She gasped as she saw the billowing gray clouds.

Smoke.

Lots of it.

She furrowed her brow, unable to figure out why or how there’d be that much smoke. Mama never burns her food, so it can’t be from that. Unless Father is cooking, but even he wouldn’t make that much smoke.

Panic overwhelmed Sierra as she scrambled down the tree. In her hurry, she slipped. Her mouth opened in a silent scream as the ground rushed toward her.

She choked as she slammed into the dirt, everything turning black.
